Incident Overview
A pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported an unintended excursion during the landing roll on runway 25R. While on the downwind leg, the pilot was informed by the tower of a crosswind condition. During the landing roll, the airplane veered to the left and departed the left side of the runway. Subsequently, the right wing contacted the ground, resulting in substantial damage.
Environmental Conditions
The METAR at the accident site near the time of the incident recorded wind from 25° at 8 knots. The pilot, after exiting the airplane, assessed the wind as calm.
Mechanical Assessment
The pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
Outcome
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing. No other damage or injuries were reported in the source.
