Accident Details
On August 2, 2019, at approximately 1830 local time, a Robinson R44 helicopter, registration DQ-HPT, impacted the ocean approximately 4 nautical miles east of Korotasere, Cakaudrove, Fiji. The circumstances surrounding the accident are unknown. The commercial pilot and two passengers on board are presumed to have suffered fatal injuries. The helicopter has not been located.
Operation and Regulation
The helicopter was being operated under the pertinent civil regulations of the government of Fiji.
Investigation
The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji (CAAF) is conducting an investigation into the accident. As the state of manufacturer of the helicopter and its engine, the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has designated a US accredited representative to assist the CAAF in its investigation.
