Accident Details
A solo student pilot experienced confusion during the landing roll after a training flight. The pilot reported that after touchdown on runway 28, she applied brakes and pulled back on the yoke, but the airplane was traveling too fast to exit at the taxi intersection she normally used. Uncertain of where to turn off, she turned left toward the next taxiway intersection at an excessive speed. The airplane exited the runway to the left and struck a taxiway sign.
Pilot Report
The student pilot stated that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation. The aircraft's engine mount sustained substantial damage as a result of the collision.
Weather Conditions
According to the airport's automated weather observation station, the wind was from 230° at 4 knots approximately three minutes after the accident occurred. The pilot had landed on runway 28.
Aircraft Damage
The impact with the taxiway sign caused substantial damage to the engine mount. No other damage was noted in the report.
