Pilot and Safety Pilot Reports
The pilot reported that during his ninth touch-and-go landing, shortly after touchdown, the airplane bounced. He intended to apply partial power and continue the landing, but the safety pilot declared, "I have." The pilot responded, "you have," and relinquished control. Shortly thereafter, the airplane rolled to the right, the right wing struck the ground, the airplane exited the runway, and impacted terrain.
The safety pilot reported that during the landing, the left main landing gear touched down first, followed by the right main landing gear. The airplane then "popped up" with a nose-high attitude. It started to climb, continued to pitch higher, and rolled to the right. The safety pilot took control, applied power, and lowered the nose, but the right-wing tip struck the ground, and the airplane impacted terrain.
Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the engine mount and truss.
Mechanical Condition
The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
