Incident Overview
A pilot operating a tailwheel and tundra tire-equipped airplane reported an accident during takeoff from an off-airport field. The aircraft had climbed to an altitude of 15 to 20 feet above ground level before beginning to descend. According to the pilot, a gust of wind pushed the airplane downward.
Sequence of Events
The pilot stated that after the descent began, he confirmed the engine was at full power and attempted to climb. However, the airplane's left wheel struck the ground, causing the aircraft to veer left. It subsequently came to rest in a ditch.

The accident resulted in substantial damage to the fuselage and both wings of the airplane.
Pilot Reports
The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions that would have precluded normal operation. He described the wind conditions as light and variable, with gusts of 8 to 10 knots.
Additional Details
Regarding the wind gust, the pilot noted that the notch of flaps he was using "dropped out" when the airplane was hit by the gust. He then verified full power and attempted to grab the notch of flaps but stated he was not fast enough.
