Incident Summary
A pilot conducted touch-and-go landings in the local traffic pattern. After being cleared to land by the air traffic controller, the pilot touched down on the runway. During the landing roll, past the halfway point, the pilot increased engine power to full for a go-around and informed the controller of the intention.
Pilot Actions and Runway Excursion
The controller immediately instructed the pilot to exit the runway using the last taxiway. In response, the pilot reduced engine power completely, applied brakes, and applied full right rudder. The airplane skidded, departed the runway surface, and subsequently struck a concrete barrier.
Aircraft Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the forward portion of the lower fuselage.
Mechanical Status
The flight safety officer reported that no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions were found that would have prevented normal operation.
