What happened
On November 2, 2019, an American Aviation AA 5, registration N24AU, was on final approach to land when the aircraft struck a tree. The incident occurred in Gilbert, South Carolina, under visual meteorological conditions with 10 statute mile visibility.
As a result of the impact, the aircraft sustained substantial damage to the left aileron. The pilot reported that there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions prior to the accident that would have prevented normal operation. There were no injuries resulting from the event.
