Incident Overview
A flight instructor reported that, while a student pilot was performing a landing, a vehicle failed to stop at the hold short line and proceeded onto the runway. The car collided with the left wing of the airplane, causing the aircraft to nose over and come to rest on the runway.
Driver's Account
The driver of the vehicle stated that he stopped at the runway entrance and checked left and right to ensure it was clear. As he crossed the runway, he heard glass shatter and felt a heavy impact. He reported that he did not see the airplane at any point until after the collision.
Aircraft Damage
The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings, the fuselage, and the empennage.
Mechanical Status
The flight instructor reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
