Incident Overview
The student pilot of a tailwheel-equipped airplane reported that during landing on runway 12, the airplane bounced and entered a nose-high attitude. The student pilot aborted the landing, applied full engine power, and pushed the nose down while leveling the wings. He then applied left rudder to crab the airplane into the wind.
Second Touchdown and Runway Excursion
The airplane touched down a second time with its longitudinal axis not aligned with the runway. It veered left and exited the left side of the runway. The right main landing gear collapsed, and the airplane came to rest upright in soft dirt terrain. The airplane sustained substantial damage to the right wing and fuselage.

The student pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.
