Incident Overview
A solo student pilot was conducting a traffic pattern flight when the accident occurred during the first landing attempt. The pilot reported that the airplane "landed flat" and subsequently bounced. Believing he could recover, the pilot continued the landing, but after three bounces the nose gear collapsed.
Sequence of Events
According to the pilot's report, the airplane touched down in a flat attitude, leading to a series of bounces. After the third bounce, the nose gear failed, causing the airplane to veer off the runway and into adjacent grass. The pilot stated that no preimpact mechanical failures or malfunctions were present with the airplane.
Damage Assessment
The accident resulted in substantial damage to the left wing and engine mounts. No other damage was reported.
