Incident Overview
According to the pilot's account, the airplane overflew the intended landing area to assess water depth, wind direction, and confirm the suitability of the location. While on final approach to the water, a boat crossed underneath the airplane. Upon touchdown, the airplane struck the wake of the boat, causing it to skip across the water surface. When the airplane contacted the water again, the front float struts collapsed, resulting in substantial damage to the fuselage.

The pilot stated that there were no preimpact mechanical malfunctions or failures with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation prior to the accident. The sequence of events was attributed to the interaction with the boat wake during the landing maneuver.
