What happened
On July 19, 2020, a Diamond DA20-C1, registration SP-KWH, was performing a flight departing from EPMO. Shortly after takeoff, while operating near the edge of the control zone (CTR) heading toward Serock, the pilot observed a decrease in the oil pressure level.
Upon detecting this parameter deviation, the pilot elected to abort the flight and initiate a return to the departure aerodrome. The pilot successfully executed a landing on runway 08 without further incident. Following the landing, the malfunction was documented in the aircraft's technical logbook.
The investigation
The investigation was conducted based on the final report submitted by the aircraft operator. The inquiry focused on identifying the source of the fluctuating oil pressure readings and the mechanical state of the engine components.
Findings
- The primary cause of the event was a malfunction of the EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) probe.
Safety action
- The EGT probe was replaced following the incident.
