What happened
On October 15, 2021, a Boeing 737-700 aircraft registered as SU-TMM was scheduled to operate a charter flight from Hurghada International Airport (HEGN) in Egypt to Cluj-Napoca International Airport (LRCL) in Romania. The aircraft departed HEGN at 12:45 UTC carrying 113 passengers.
The flight was conducted under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). The captain served as the Pilot Flying (PF), and the first officer acted as the Pilot Monitoring (PM). According to crew statements, both the en-route phase and the approach proceeded normally without incident.
During the landing roll on runway 25 at Cluj-Napoca, the main landing gear tires exploded immediately upon touchdown. The aircraft continued to roll with the damaged tires for a distance of 650 meters before coming to a complete stop approximately 1,040 meters from the runway threshold. The final coordinates of the stopped aircraft were recorded as Latitude 46°47'13.88"N and Longitude 023°40'59.02"E.
The investigation
The AIAS initiated an investigation into this event in accordance with Regulation (EU) No 996/2010. At the time of this provisional declaration, the investigation activities were not yet finalized. The authority was in the process of completing and verifying information collected during the on-site investigation at the accident location.
Findings
The primary finding was the explosion of the main landing gear tires upon initial contact with the runway surface. No immediate safety recommendations were issued by the AIAS following this provisional report.
