Accident Overview
On March 4, 2023, at approximately 1437 central standard time, a Piper PA46-600TP (registration N131HL) sustained substantial damage during a landing accident near Thedford, Nebraska. The aircraft was being operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot and sole passenger were uninjured.
Sequence of Events
The pilot reported that during the landing rollout, as the nose wheel contacted the runway, the airplane began to veer to the right. He applied left rudder and left brake in an attempt to maintain directional control, but as airspeed decreased, control became increasingly difficult. The airplane subsequently departed the right side of the runway. During the runway excursion, the aircraft impacted a runway light, spun to the left, and the landing gear collapsed.
Damage and Examination
A postaccident examination revealed substantial damage to the left wing. The investigation remains pending as of the time of this report; no detailed examination results have been released.
