What happened
On May 21, 2024, at approximately 12:15 Pacific daylight time, an Engineering & Research Ercoupe 415-C, registration N99577, was involved in an accident near Ontario, Oregon. The aircraft was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 for personal flight.
Witnesses holding short of runway 15 observed the aircraft on an unstable approach to the runway. During the approach, the airplane struck two runway end identifier lights and bounced before landing on the runway. Following the landing, a post-crash fire occurred. The aircraft sustained substantial impact and thermal damage to the wings and fuselage.
The pilot sustained one serious injury and there were no fatalities.
