What happened
On July 2, 2024, at approximately 13:30 Pacific daylight time, a Vans Aircraft Inc. RV-12IS, registration N725FA, was involved in an accident near Scappoose, Oregon. The aircraft was operating under 14 CFR Part 91 as a personal flight.
ADS-B data indicates the flight originated from Grove Field Airport (1W1) in Camas, Washington, and proceeded to Scappoose Airport (SPB). The aircraft completed four left-turn traffic patterns. The final data point recorded the aircraft at an altitude of approximately 50 feet and an airspeed of about 60 knots, roughly 1/2 mile short of the approach end of runway 15.
Witnesses at the airport observed the aircraft performing a hard left bank turn with a nose-down attitude before it struck the terrain. The aircraft came to rest on a taxiway located east of runway 15. The pilot sustained 1 serious injury.
