Accident Overview
On October 26, 2024, at about 1440 central daylight time, a Cessna 182Q airplane was involved in an accident near Rose Hill, Kansas. The aircraft was not damaged, and the pilot was not injured. A passenger sustained fatal injuries. The airplane was operating as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 skydiving flight.
Pilot Account
The pilot reported completing six skydive flights during the morning of the accident. The airplane was parked with the engine running, waiting to board more skydivers for a seventh flight. A passenger, who was a photographer, was seated in the back of the airplane.
Event Sequence
The photographer exited the airplane and moved into a position to photograph the skydivers as they approached the aircraft. While doing so, she backed into the turning propeller and sustained fatal injuries.
Investigation
The National Transportation Safety Board has opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident. No further details have been released at this time.
