What happened
On December 27, 2024, at approximately 13:09 mountain standard time, a Cessna 560, registration N753MB, was involved in an accident during takeoff from runway 01 at Stevens Field Airport (PSO) in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. The flight was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 as a personal flight, with an intended destination of Tulsa Riverside Airport (RVS) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
During the takeoff roll, the aircraft reached its decision speed (V1) of 96 knots and rotation speed (Vr) of 103 knots. However, the pilot was unable to rotate the aircraft despite applying full aft deflection to the control yoke. The pilot noted that the aircraft did not appear to have sufficient power and was not accelerating at the rate predicted by calculated performance data.
Upon reaching an airspeed of 120 knots, the pilot initiated a rejected takeoff using maximum braking and full reverse thrust. The aircraft subsequently departed the end of runway 01, entered the grass beyond the runway, and pivoted to the left before coming to a stop. There were no injuries among the pilot, copilot, 8 passengers, or 3 dogs on board.
The investigation
A post-accident inspection conducted by a certified airframe and powerplant mechanic found that both wings of the aircraft sustained substantial damage. The aircraft was retained for further examination.
