Accident Overview
On January 14, 2025, at approximately 1830 central standard time, a Piper PA-28-181 airplane, registration N504AF, was substantially damaged during an accident near Addison, Texas. The aircraft was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight. The pilot reported no injuries.
Sequence of Events
According to the pilot, during the initial climb at about 150 feet above ground level, the engine experienced a partial loss of power. Unable to maintain the climb, the pilot declared an emergency and maneuvered to land on the remaining usable runway. The airplane subsequently landed hard, resulting in the collapse of the right main landing gear. The aircraft came to a stop after the hard landing.
Damage
The right wing sustained substantial damage. The right main landing gear collapsed during the landing sequence. The airplane was retained for further examination.
Pilot Actions
The pilot reported the partial power loss and declared an emergency. The pilot then attempted to land on the remaining runway, which resulted in a hard landing.
