What happened
On January 14, 2025, at approximately 18:30 CST, a Piper PA-28-181, registration N504AF, was performing a personal flight under 14 CFR Part 91 near Addison, Texas. During the initial climb, when the aircraft was roughly 150 feet above ground level, the pilot experienced a partial loss of engine power.
Unable to maintain the climb, the pilot declared an emergency and attempted to land on the remaining usable runway. During the landing, the aircraft struck the ground hard, resulting in the collapse of the right main landing gear. The accident resulted in no injuries to the pilot, but the aircraft sustained substantial damage, specifically to the right wing.
