What happened
On March 4, 2025, at approximately 15:55 Pacific standard time, a Cessna A150L, registration N6167F, crashed near Renslow, Washington. The aircraft had departed Yakima Air Terminal/McAllister Field (YKM) at approximately 15:31 local time, with the pilot intending to fly to Riverview Airpark (91WT) in Chelan, Washington.
After the pilot failed to arrive at the destination, an FAA alert notice was issued following a report from a friend of the pilot. The following morning, personnel from an energy company located the wreckage in remote mountainous terrain. A witness hiking in the area reported hearing a loud noise and noted that a thunderstorm and gusting winds were present in the area at the time of the accident. Weather conditions at the time of the crash included visibility of 10 statute miles and winds from 300 degrees at 09 knots.
Investigation of the site showed the aircraft impacted snow-covered ground about 6 miles northeast of Renslow, near a wind and solar farm. The initial impact point consisted of a 12-foot wide by 35-foot long area of disturbed dirt and snow. Debris, including the propeller, plexiglass, metal fragments, and the left main wheel, extended 354 feet from the impact area to the main wreckage. The main wreckage came to rest inverted on a magnetic heading of approximately 197°.
The accident resulted in 1 fatality.
