What happened
On June 29, 2025, at approximately 11:07 EDT, a Beech 95-B55, registration N9420Y, was involved in an accident near Mount Dora, Florida. The aircraft was being operated under 14 CFR Part 91 for personal use, with the intent to fly to another airport for refueling.
During the takeoff roll, the aircraft became airborne, at which point the right engine failed. This caused the aircraft to veer to the right, striking a tree before coming to rest partially submerged in a pond within a residential area. The accident resulted in one serious injury to the pilot and one minor injury to the passenger.
The impact
The collision with the tree and subsequent impact with the water caused substantial damage to the aircraft's fuselage and left wing. Following the accident, the pilot shut off the fuel supply, and the occupants attempted to walk back to the airport to seek assistance.
