Ikarus C42B YR-5152 accident at Iași-Sud aerodrome

Event overview On 27 September 2025, an Ikarus C42B registered YR-5152 was involved in an accident in the area of Iași-Sud aerodrome (LRIS), Iași County. The flight was a private flight. The aircraft was destroyed by fire. ## Sequence of events After engine start and checks, the aircraft, carrying a pilot and one passenger, began its takeoff roll, aligned, and took off from runway 13. Immediately after becoming airborne on a heading of 130°, at an altitude of up to 150 m, the pilot made a left turn, most likely to attempt to return to the takeoff area. During the turn, the aircraft descended and struck trees to the southeast of the aerodrome, crashing in the area of a military facility. The wreckage was found at latitude 47°9'21.88″N and longitude 027°38'34.44″E. ## Damage and injuries Shortly after impact, the aircraft caught fire. The fire completely destroyed the aircraft. Both persons on board were transported to an emergency medical facility; the pilot sustained serious injuries and the passenger sustained minor injuries. ## Aircraft and pilot information The aircraft was manufactured by COMCO IKARUS, type C42B, serial number 0806-6983, built in 2008. It was privately owned and registered in Romania as YR-5152. The pilot was a 53-year-old man holding a valid license for ultralight aircraft and passenger flights, with 450 hours of experience. ## Aerodrome details LRIS is located near the city of Iași, approximately 2.5 km SSE of Iași International Airport (LRIA), and is open to general air traffic under visual flight rules. It has a grass runway 13/31, 650 m long and 40 m wide, and a taxiway (TWY A). The aircraft crashed approximately 400 m SE of the runway, in the wooded area of a military facility. ## Investigation status The investigation commission conducted an initial investigation at the scene, collected video and photographs, interviewed witnesses, and obtained surveillance camera recordings. The investigation is ongoing. The final report, including conclusions and probable cause, will be published by AIAS.
