Event Overview
On 1 December 2025, a DAN AIR Airbus A319-132, registration YR-URS, operated a scheduled passenger flight from London Luton Airport (EGGW) to Bacău International Airport (LRBC). The aircraft carried 96 passengers and a crew of five (three flight crew and two cabin crew). The flight departed at 21:11 UTC.
Navigation Anomalies
During descent, while passing the locality of Reghin at Flight Level 370, the crew received multiple ECAM (Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitoring) alerts indicating malfunctions of the inertial reference systems (IRS) and GPS faults (NAV GPS1 FAULT and NAV GPS2 FAULT). Near the KENUX waypoint, Air Traffic Control informed the crew that the aircraft's actual position was approximately 3.5 nautical miles east of the intended track. The crew verified the navigation systems, which indicated ACCUR high with GPS PRIMARY and an estimated accuracy of 0.30 NM (required minimum 1.0 NM).
Approach and Terrain Warning
The crew received ATC clearance for the ILS approach to Runway 34 via KENUX and activated the approach mode (APPR) with autopilot 2 selected. However, the aircraft had already passed the SETCU intercept point, deviated about 4 NM east of the localizer course, and could not capture the ILS signals. At 23:45 UTC, the third flight crew member noted the aircraft was to the right of the localizer. The crew turned left to a heading of 320° and initiated a descent at 1500 feet per minute.
At 23:55 UTC, at a barometric altitude of approximately 1400 feet, the Enhanced Ground Proximity Warning System (EGPWS) issued a TAWS CAUTION/WARNING with the voice alert "Terrain, terrain, PULL UP, PULL UP." The crew executed a climb to Flight Level 110.
Safe Landing
After radar vectoring from ATC, the crew initiated a second ILS approach. The aircraft landed safely at 00:20 UTC.
Aircraft and Crew
The Airbus A319-132 (serial number 03614, built 2008) had accumulated 36,362 flight hours. All three flight crew members held valid licenses and medical certificates. The commander had 8,500 total flight hours (8,000 on A320), the first officer had 1,108 hours on type, and the line-check pilot (TRI) had 12,000 total hours (1,200 on A320).
Investigation
The investigation is being conducted by the Romanian Air Accident Investigation Authority (AIAS). France's BEA and Airbus have designated an accredited representative and a technical advisor. The probable cause will be determined upon completion of the final report.
