During the takeoff roll on Runway 3R, intended for a flight to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (KPHX), the pilot reported that the aircraft began to veer left while accelerating through approximately 50 knots. The aircraft departed the left side of the runway and entered the runway safety area, crossing a taxiway. The pilot was able to maneuver the aircraft back onto the runway and bring it to a stop. During the excursion, the aircraft collided with a taxiway sign and runway edge lights, causing substantial damage to the fuselage. The pilot was not injured.
