What happened

On February 09, 2026, a Beechcraft G36, registration N229TT, was involved in an accident near Gainesville, Georgia. The flight was being conducted under Part 91 regulations for the purpose of building flight hours to meet insurance requirements for single-pilot operations.

After departing Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport (GVL), the aircraft flew to Knoxville Downtown Island Airport (DKX) and subsequently to Tri-Cities Airport (TRI) before returning to GVL. Following a second departure from GVL, the aircraft flew northwest for approximately 4 miles, performed a 180-degree left turn, and then made another left turn to line up with Browns Ridge Rd.

During the climb to cruise altitude on the final leg, the engine RPM gauge indicated a reading of over 3,400 RPM, which exceeded the engine's maximum limit of 2,700 RPM. The engine RPM then fluctuated between 1,600 and 3,400, accompanied by rough running and sputtering. The pilot and flight instructor attempted to return to GVL but determined they could not reach the runway, resulting in a forced landing on Browns Bridge Rd.

During the impact, the aircraft struck three automobiles. The pilot and flight instructor were not injured, though two occupants of separate vehicles sustained minor injuries.
