What happened
On November 17, 2024, at approximately 10:50 local time, a Cessna 182Q was involved in an aviation occurrence at Aeródromo Las Brujas (SCXB) in the Coquimbo Region of Chile. The aircraft, operated by a private pilot, was conducting local flights as part of an aerial festival.
During the landing phase on runway 27, the aircraft drifted toward its left side and exited the runway surface. The aircraft subsequently overturned approximately 400 meters from the runway threshold. The flight involved one pilot and three passengers. While the aircraft sustained major damage, all four occupants sustained only minor injuries.
The investigation
DGAC Chile investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the excursion and the condition of the aircraft. Preliminary findings indicate that the aircraft's weight was within certified parameters at the time of the incident. The investigation also confirmed that the aircraft's maintenance was being performed by an authorized and certified maintenance center.
Regarding the aircraft's systems, investigators noted that fuel was present in the tanks at the time of the event; however, due to the aircraft overturning, the fuel spilled onto the ground. The investigation is currently in the analysis phase to determine the definitive cause of the excursion.
