Piper PA-28R-201 Runway Excursion at West End Airport (N60SU)

Incident Overview and Flight Details On April 12, 2024, at approximately 10:40 a.m. local time (1440 UTC), a Piper PA-28R-201 with United States registration N60SU was involved in an occurrence while landing at West End Airport (MYGW) in Grand Bahama, Bahamas. The aircraft, operated by Cyszczon Aviation LLC, departed from Boca Raton Airport (KBCT) in Florida, USA, at approximately 9:51 a.m. local time (1351 UTC) under a Visual Flight Rules (VFR) flight plan. Three persons were on board. ## Sequence of Events The pilot in command reported that the flight was uneventful until the approach to runway 30 at MYGW. No aircraft system malfunctions or issues were observed during the previous flight or the pre-flight actions. While at an altitude of approximately 20 feet above the runway, the pilot observed that the aircraft was not responding to rudder inputs intended to adjust its alignment with the runway. The aircraft subsequently touched down sideways on the runway. When the pilot applied braking and directional control inputs using the brakes and rudder, the aircraft again did not respond. It continued on its trajectory, resulting in a runway excursion to the right of runway 30. The aircraft came to rest in bushes on the side of the runway. ## Damage, Injuries, and Conditions The aircraft sustained damage to its wings. No injuries were reported among the crew, passengers, or on the ground. There was no aircraft fire or explosion. Meteorological conditions at the accident site were Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) during the day. An observation from MYGF at 1400 UTC, located 16 nautical miles from the site, reported a temperature of 24°C, a dewpoint of 17°C, wind from 320 degrees at 11 knots, visibility greater than 6 statute miles, and an altimeter setting of 30.11 in.
