Occurrence Details
On June 2, 2024, at approximately 11:56 AM local time (1556 UTC), a Beechcraft Baron 58 aircraft, United States registration N558WH, was involved in a serious incident while landing at Lynden Pindling International Airport (MYNN), Nassau, Bahamas. The aircraft had departed from Douglas Municipal Airport (KDQH), Douglas, GA, USA at about 9:05 AM local (1305 UTC) on an Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) flight plan with two persons on board—one pilot and one passenger.
Flight and Landing Sequence
According to the pilot in command, the flight was uneventful until the landing phase. The pilot reported completing all necessary procedural checks while approaching Runway 10 at MYNN. The aircraft landed as normal with both main wheels. However, when the nose wheel made contact with the runway, the nose landing gear subsequently collapsed. The aircraft came to rest at coordinates 25°2'10.00"N 77°28'23.00"W, approximately 2,592 feet from the beginning of the runway 10 threshold. Runway markings indicated the first point of runway contact was about 2,374 feet from the threshold.
Damage and Injuries
Post-occurrence examination revealed damage to both propellers, the aircraft's nose undercarriage, and the nose landing gear retraction rod. No injuries were reported in relation to this occurrence.
Investigation Findings
The investigation documented that the aircraft was maintained in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications and applicable United States regulatory requirements. The weather at the time was visual meteorological conditions (VMC) and was not a factor in this occurrence. A limited scope investigation was conducted; no safety message or recommendations were issued. It was not determined to what extent, if any, the need to replace the nose landing gear retraction rod was contributory to the event.
