What happened

On July 1, 2024, at 04:25 UTC, a Boeing 787-9, registration EC-MTI, operated by Air Europa, was conducting an international commercial passenger flight from Madrid-Barajas Airport (LEMD) to Carrasco International Airport (SUMU) in Montevideo, Uruguay. While in the en-route phase of flight, approximately 430 NM from Natal, Brazil, an inadvertent action was performed on the flight controls.

As a result of this movement, several passengers who were not wearing seatbelts sustained injuries. The aircraft suffered damage to panels within the passenger cabin compartment. Following the event, the flight was diverted to Grande Natal International Airport in Brazil to allow the injured occupants to receive medical assistance.
