Occurrence
On 03 October 2014, Sky Regional Airlines flight SKV7519, a De Havilland DHC-8-400 (serial number 4170, registration C-FSRN), departed Montréal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, Quebec, on a regularly scheduled instrument flight rules (IFR) flight to Toronto/Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, Ontario. On board were 4 crew members and 62 passengers. The landing occurred at 1649 Eastern Daylight Time during daylight hours. As the aircraft touched down, the crew experienced difficulty bringing the aircraft to a stop before the end of the runway. To avoid a runway overrun, the crew steered the aircraft onto a taxiway. The aircraft sustained no damage, and there were no injuries to any occupants.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) classified this occurrence as a class 3 investigation. Such investigations examine a limited set of safety issues and may result in safety recommendations. The TSB's investigation determined the circumstances leading to the event.
Probable Cause
The TSB attributed the risk of a runway overrun to a deviation from standard landing procedures.
