What happened
On 03 October 2014, a Sky Regional Airlines DHC-8-400, registered as C-FSRN, was performing a scheduled flight from Montréal/Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport to Toronto/Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. The aircraft was operating under instrument flight rules with a crew of four and 62 passengers on board.
At approximately 1649 Eastern Daylight Time, during daylight hours, the flight crew encountered issues attempting to decelerate the aircraft before the runway terminus. To avoid a full runway overrun, the crew steered the aircraft off the runway and onto an adjacent taxiway. The incident resulted in no injuries to the passengers or crew, and the aircraft sustained no damage.
The investigation
The investigation focused on the circumstances surrounding the landing and the crew's ability to maintain control of the aircraft's deceleration. The TSB examined the flight's approach and landing phase to determine why the aircraft could not be stopped within the available runway length.
