What happened
On 10 February 2021, a privately registered Blackshape Prime BS100 was performing circuit training at Ottawa/Carp airport (CYRP). Following a touch-and-go maneuver on runway 28, the aircraft began its climb but initiated a left turn before it had even cleared the runway threshold. Shortly after, approximately 240 m south of the runway, the aircraft entered a near-vertical descent and struck a wooded area. The impact was followed by a fire that destroyed the aircraft. The pilot, who was the only person on board, sustained fatal injuries.
The investigation
The TSB conducted a Class 4 investigation into the event, focusing on the sequence of the flight path and the circumstances surrounding the loss of control. The investigation examined the aircraft's trajectory from the moment of the touch-and-go takeoff through the subsequent turn and the final descent into the terrain.
