Occurrence
On 31 July 2025, a privately registered Grumman American Aviation Corporation AA-5A departed from Ottawa/Gatineau Airport (CYND), Quebec, for a local flight with three people on board. During the flight, the aircraft experienced an engine failure and subsequently collided with trees near Ottawa/Macdonald-Carrier International Airport (CYOW), Ontario. The aircraft became lodged in the trees approximately 20 feet above the ground. There was no post-impact fire.
Injuries
The pilot was fatally injured. The two other occupants sustained minor injuries.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is investigating the occurrence. The investigation is classified as a Class 4 investigation, which is limited in scope and does not produce findings or recommendations. Such investigations are generally completed within 220 days.
