Occurrence
On September 7, 2023, a Fairchild SA227-DC aircraft operated by Perimeter Aviation GP Inc. was conducting a scheduled flight. The flight originated from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International Airport, Ontario, with a planned stop at North Bay/Jack Garland Airport, Ontario, before continuing to Detour Lake Aerodrome, Ontario. During the landing at Detour Lake, the aircraft’s right wing struck the runway while the aircraft was in a nose-down attitude. The impact caused the right main landing gear and the nose landing gear to collapse. Subsequently, the aircraft lost directional control, veered to the right, and slid down the runway embankment. It came to rest in an upright position.
Injuries and Damage
All occupants—two crew members and eight passengers—were able to exit the aircraft. One crew member and three passengers sustained minor injuries. The aircraft suffered significant damage, including to the landing gear, both engines, propellers, wings, and fuselage. No post-crash fire occurred, and the emergency locator transmitter did not activate.
Investigation
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) deployed a team of investigators to Detour Lake Aerodrome on September 8, 2023, to gather information and assess the occurrence. The investigation is classified as a class 3 investigation, which typically analyzes a limited number of safety issues and may result in recommendations. The TSB continues to investigate the circumstances of the runway excursion.
