What happened
On 07 September 2023, a Fairchild SA227-DC operated by Perimeter Aviation GP Inc. was performing a scheduled flight sequence starting from Toronto/Lester B. Pearson International Airport, continuing to North Bay/Jack Garland Airport, and concluding at Detour Lake Aerodrome, Ontario.
Upon attempting to land at Detour Lake Aerodrome, the aircraft struck the runway with its right wing while in a nose-down attitude. This impact triggered the collapse of both the nose and right main landing gears. Following the gear failure, the pilot lost control of the aircraft, causing it to veer toward the right side of the runway. The aircraft subsequently slid down the runway embankment before coming to a halt in an upright position.
There were 4 minor injuries reported among the occupants, including one crew member and three passengers. The remaining crew member and five passengers exited the aircraft without further incident. While the aircraft suffered extensive damage to its fuselage, wings, engines, propellers, and landing gear, no fire occurred following the impact, and the emergency locator transmitter failed to activate.
The investigation
The TSB deployed a team of investigators to the site to collect evidence and evaluate the circumstances surrounding the runway excursion.
