What happened
On July 19, 2024, an Earthstar Aircraft eGull basic ultralight aircraft was performing a local flight departing from Weyman Airpark, New Brunswick. During the course of the operation, witnesses observed the aircraft executing a series of low-altitude turns. Following these maneuvers, the aircraft began a rapid descent into a nearby cornfield. The impact caused the aircraft to come to rest in a vertical orientation, with the tail section remaining upright. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident.
The investigation
The TSB conducted a Class 4 investigation into the occurrence. This type of investigation is limited in scope and focuses on the immediate circumstances of the event. The investigation examined the flight path, the aircraft's behavior during the low-level turns, and the final position of the aircraft in the field.
