Synopsis
On 5 March 2019 at 7:40 p.m., a Boeing 737-900 (ER), registered HS-LTI and operated by Thai Lion Mentari Company Limited, was conducting flight SL974 from Phuket International Airport to Shanghai Pudong International Airport. After takeoff from Phuket, the pilot in command experienced sudden chest pain and was unable to control the aircraft.
Events
A pilot who was in the passenger compartment was called to operate the aircraft. The replacement pilot notified air traffic control, and the aircraft landed at Don Mueang International Airport at 9:10 p.m. without declaring a state of emergency.
Injuries and Damage
There were no injuries or fatalities. The aircraft was not damaged.
Investigation
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee for the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Commission Thailand is investigating the serious incident. Notification was sent to the French Republic, as the State of aircraft design and manufacture, and to the International Civil Aviation Organization. The final report is in process and will be published along with the cause and preventive measures.
