On 22 April 2017, a Cessna 172 (HS-BSL) conducting flight training experienced a runway excursion after a go-around attempt, colliding with runway end lights. No injuries reported; aircraft substantially damaged.

Accident Overview

On 22 April 2017 at 05:55 p.m., a Cessna 172 aircraft, registration HS-BSL, operated by Siracha Aviation Company Limited, was involved in an accident at the temporary take-off and landing area at Saha Pathana Inter-Holding Public Company Limited, Kabin Buri district, Prachin Buri province. The aircraft was conducting a non-commercial flight training operation with an instructor pilot and a student pilot on board.

Sequence of Events

The flight was performing a simulated forced landing scenario, during which the engine was intentionally stopped while landing. The aircraft touched down on the runway while maintaining its speed. The pilot anticipated being unable to stop within the remaining runway length and therefore elected to execute a go-around. However, during the go-around, the aircraft could not gain sufficient altitude to clear obstacles and subsequently collided with runway end lights.

Damage and Injuries

The aircraft sustained substantial damage. Neither the instructor nor the student pilot reported any injuries.

Investigation Status

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee for the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Commission Thailand has opened an investigation. Notification was sent to the United States as the state of aircraft design and manufacture. The investigation is ongoing, and a final report will be published with the cause of the accident and any recommended preventive measures.
