Synopsis
On 9 October 2023, at approximately 08:49 a.m. local time, an Airbus A330-303 aircraft, registered as TC-JOJ and operated by Turkish Airlines as flight TK59, encountered a pressurisation system malfunction while en route from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Istanbul, Türkiye. The aircraft was at an altitude of 25,000 feet, approximately 140 nautical miles northwest of Suvarnabhumi Airport. The flight carried a total of 196 persons: 3 pilots, 11 cabin crew, and 182 passengers.
Incident Description
Upon detecting the pressurisation system malfunction, the pilots requested clearance to return to Suvarnabhumi Airport. During the descent and landing, the flight crew employed oxygen masks. The aircraft landed without further complication. There were no injuries or fatalities among occupants, and the aircraft sustained no damage.
Investigation Status
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee for the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Commission Thailand launched an investigation into the serious incident. Notification was sent to the French Republic as the State of Aircraft Design and Manufacture, and to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). As of September 2025, the investigation is in the draft final report phase, with the status listed as "In Process." The final report will detail the cause of the serious incident and recommend preventive measures to domestic and international aviation authorities.
