Incident Overview
On 18 July 2019 at 10:48 AM, a Cessna Grand Caravan 208B G1000, registration HS-WIA, operated by RPS System Company Limited, was conducting flight training from Chiang Mai International Airport to Pai Airport, Pai District, Mae Hong Son Province. The flight plan involved training company pilots in Short Take-Off and Landing (STOL) procedures as specified in the Pilot's Operating Handbook (POH). The aircraft carried a pilot, a co-pilot, and passengers, totaling six persons.
Sequence of Events
During the last flight of the training plan, as the aircraft's wheels touched down on runway 19, the right main tire exploded. This caused the aircraft to exit the runway to the right side before coming to a stop within the runway strip.
Damage and Injuries
The aircraft sustained damage to the right main tire and wheel hub. There were no injuries or fatalities reported.
Investigation Status
The incident was classified as a serious incident with occurrence category RE (Runway Excursion). The Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee for the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Commission Thailand notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States of America, as the state of aircraft design, and the International Civil Aviation Organization. The investigation is ongoing, and the final report, including the cause, will be published later. Preventive measures will be recommended to domestic and international aviation authorities.
