Introduction
On 10 August 2018, at 04:45 p.m. local time, a student pilot conducted the first solo flight in a Cessna 172S aircraft, registered as HS-BSS. The flight was a non-commercial operation categorized as flight training/instructional. The departure and intended landing were at the temporary take-off and landing area located at Saha Pathana Inter-Holding Public Company Limited in Kabin Buri district, Prachin Buri province, Thailand. The aircraft was owned and operated by Sriracha Aviation Public Company Limited.
Sequence of Events
During the landing approach, the aircraft's nose was higher than normal, causing the airplane to bounce upon touchdown. The pilot executed two go-arounds in response to the bounced landings. On the third landing attempt, the aircraft lost directional control, veered to the left, and exited the runway. After departing the runway surface, the propeller struck concrete barriers positioned adjacent to the runway. The accident occurred at 04:55 p.m.
Damage and Injuries
The aircraft sustained substantial damage as a result of the collision with the barriers. The student pilot was not injured.
Investigation Status
Following the accident, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee for the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Commission Thailand notified the United States of America, as the state of design and manufacture, and the International Civil Aviation Organization. As of the interim report date (September 2025), the investigation remains in process, with a draft final report under preparation. The probable cause has not yet been determined; it will be published in the final report along with any recommended preventive measures.
