Synopsis
On 8 October 2020 at 08:40 a.m., a Cessna Grand Caravan 208B aircraft, registration HS-SKR, operated by Thai Flying Service Company Limited as flight TFT203, departed Suvarnabhumi Airport en route to Koh Mai Si Airport. The flight carried a pilot, co-pilot, and 8 passengers, totaling 10 occupants.
Incident Details
At 09:42 a.m., the pilot detected a burning smell in the cockpit. As the aircraft flew through the vicinity of U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya International Airport, the odor intensified and smoke became visible. Subsequently, the communication system failed. The pilot decided to land at U-Tapao-Rayong-Pattaya International Airport. The aircraft landed without further incident. No injuries or fatalities occurred, and the aircraft sustained no damage.
Aftermath
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee of the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Commission Thailand notified the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States, as the state of aircraft design and manufacture, and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The investigation was classified as a serious incident under category F-NT (Fire/Smoke, Non-Impact). As of the interim report published in July 2024, the investigation remained in progress, and the cause had not yet been determined. The final report will include the cause and any resulting safety recommendations.
