Boeing 747-400 Runway Excursion at Suvarnabhumi Airport (HS-TGF)

Incident Overview On 8 October 2018 at 10:48 p.m. local time, a Boeing 747-400 aircraft operated by Thai Airways Public Company Limited experienced a runway excursion at Suvarnabhumi Airport. The aircraft, bearing the registration mark HS-TGF, was operating flight TG679 from Guangzhou Airport to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The flight was crewed by two pilots and 16 crew members, and carried 97 passengers. ## Sequence of Events After landing on runway 19R at Suvarnabhumi Airport, the aircraft touched down on the runway surface and deviated from the left side of the runway center line. The aircraft subsequently exited the runway and came to a stop on the grass at a runway strip near exit sign E13. ## Damage and Injuries The aircraft sustained substantial damage to engine numbers 1 through 4, the landing gears, tyres, and brakes. There were no injuries or fatalities among the persons on board. ## Investigation Status The Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee for the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Commission Thailand classified the occurrence as an accident in which the aircraft ran off the side of the runway. Following the accident, the committee sent notifications to the United States of America, as the state of aircraft design and manufacture, and to the International Civil Aviation Organization. As of the interim report, the final report was in process, with the investigation phase at the drafting stage. The final report is expected to be published along with the cause of the accident, and the committee will recommend preventive measures to aviation authorities both domestically and internationally.
