Introduction
On 11 May 2022 at 06:37 a.m. local time, Drukair Corporation Limited flight DRK151, an Airbus A319 with registration A5-RGF, departed from Suvarnabhumi Airport (VTBS) bound for Paro International Airport (VQPR). The aircraft was conducting a commercial air transport operation.
Incident Details
Shortly after takeoff, the fire warning for engine number 2 activated and then ceased. The pilot continued climbing to an altitude of 4,000 feet, at which point the engine number 2 fire warning sounded again and subsequently stopped. In response, the pilot decided to return to Suvarnabhumi Airport. The aircraft landed on runway 19R at 07:05 a.m. without deploying the engine fire extinguishing system.
Aftermath
A post-landing inspection of the aircraft revealed damage to the right-hand Variable Stator Vane (VSV) Actuator and the Upper 9th Stage High Pressure Duct of engine number 2. No injuries were reported, and the aircraft itself was not damaged. The serious incident was classified under occurrence category F-NT: Fire/Smoke (Non-Impact). The Aircraft Accident Investigation Committee for the Aircraft Accident and Incident Investigation Commission Thailand notified the Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety (BEA) of France, as the state of design and manufacture, and the Air Accident Investigation Unit (AAIU) of Bhutan, as the state of registry and operator, as well as the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The final report will be published upon completion of the investigation.
