On 16 January 2018, a HS 748-2A cargo flight (BML 211) from Cox's Bazar to Jessore experienced hydraulic failure after landing, causing the aircraft to veer off the apron into soft ground, resulting in left main gear collapse and propeller damage. The crew was unhurt.

Synopsis

On 16 January 2018, Bismillah Airlines Limited flight BML 211, a HS 748-2A aircraft registered S2-AAX, conducted a non-scheduled cargo flight from Cox's Bazar Airport (VGCB) to Jessore Airport (VGJR). The aircraft departed Cox's Bazar at 04:53 UTC and landed at Jessore at 06:03 UTC with a landing weight of 18,270 kg without any incident or problem.

After clearing the runway, while taxiing on the eastern taxiway yellow guide line toward parking bay BAY-1, four amber caution lights illuminated on the hydraulic panel. The nose wheel steering and brakes became non-effective. Hydraulic quantity pressure dropped to zero. The aircraft veered left and exited the concrete apron onto soft ground. The left main wheel struck a nearby concrete slab and collapsed. The left engine propeller also sustained damage.

History of Flight

The flight was a non-scheduled cargo operation. The last point of departure was Cox's Bazar Airport, and the intended landing point was Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport, Dhaka. However, the aircraft landed at Jessore Airport without further incident prior to the taxi event.

Damage to Aircraft

The aircraft sustained extensive damage. Initial inspection revealed:

  • Port side propeller: four blade tips were bent and damaged.
  • Port side landing gear: broken from its attachment.
  • Port side landing gear door: broken.
  • Port side landing nacelle: broken and damaged.

Injuries to Persons

The captain, co-pilot, and all other crew onboard were found unhurt.

Jessore Airport Fire and Rescue (CFR) personnel sighted the aircraft's ground location from the control tower and assisted the crew and maintenance personnel in securing the aircraft.

The investigation was conducted by the Aircraft Accident Investigation Group of Bangladesh (AAIG-BD) in accordance with ICAO Annex 13. The United Kingdom's AAIB participated as an accredited representative due to the aircraft's manufacturer.
