History of the Flight
The Bombardier DHC-8-402 aircraft, registered S2-AGQ, was operating a scheduled international passenger flight from Hazrat Shah Jalal International Airport (VGHS), Bangladesh to Yangon International Airport (VYYY), Myanmar. At 18:03 local time, the flight contacted Yangon control tower. At 18:16, the aircraft established an ILS approach. Due to adverse weather, air traffic control instructed a go-around, and aerodrome operations were suspended for two hours. When weather improved, the airport reopened. The aircraft then conducted an RNP approach as only the localizer was available. During the approach to runway 21, the aircraft was slightly above the 3-degree glide path. It touched down on runway 21 and remained on the ground for about seven seconds, running parallel to the runway. It then became airborne again, reaching 44 feet above ground, before descending and colliding with runway 03. The aircraft slid forward out of the runway and came to a stop on the overrun area of runway 03. There was no fire. All landing gear collapsed, and the fuselage broke into three sections.
Injuries to Persons
On board were four crew members (pilot in command, first officer, two cabin crew), two aircraft engineers, and 28 passengers including one infant. According to the accident report, four crew and eight passengers sustained serious injuries. One crew member and seven passengers received minor injuries; one crew member and 13 passengers were uninjured. No fatalities were reported.
Damage to Aircraft
The aircraft was destroyed. Damage included a cracked and damaged radome; collapsed nose landing gear; broken main landing gear shock absorbers; the right wing broken at the fuselage attachment point; left and right propeller blades shattered; the fuselage interior destroyed; the fuselage broken into three sections; the cockpit door inoperable due to fuselage damage; and the emergency locator transmitter activated and transmitted a distress signal.
Wreckage and Impact Information
The accident site was at latitude N 16°53'52", longitude E 96°07'34". The aircraft came to rest on the overrun (muddy) area of runway 03. It was raining, and the runway was wet. Debris and broken aircraft parts were found on the runway approximately 1500 feet from the runway 03 threshold. Firefighters, airport and airline personnel responded to reopen the airport and take necessary actions.
Survival Aspects
After the aircraft came to rest, an aircraft engineer opened the front emergency exit door and threw it outside. The cabin crew were unable to initiate an emergency evacuation. All passengers and some crew egressed by their own means with mutual assistance. Aircraft rescue and fire fighting (ARFF) vehicles arrived within three minutes. The cockpit door could not be opened due to fuselage damage; ARFF personnel opened the escape hatch and took measures to prevent fire and cool the undercarriage. The pilot and co-pilot were rescued with help from the ARFF team. Twenty injured persons, including six crew members, were transported to two hospitals in Yangon.

At 18:30 local time, the METAR reported variable winds at 10 knots with gusts of 20 knots, visibility 3000 meters, thunderstorm with rain, broken clouds at 1000 feet, temperature 30°C, dew point 27°C, and QNH 1003 hPa. At 19:00, wind was 08 knots from 30 degrees, visibility 4000 meters, thunderstorm with rain, broken clouds at 1200 feet, temperature 30°C, dew point 27°C, and QNH 1004 hPa.
