Incident Overview
On 14 August 2023, a De Havilland Canada Twin Otter DHC-6-200, registration TG-JOC, was involved in a runway excursion during landing at Ramón Villeda Morales International Airport (MHLM) in La Lima, Cortes Department, Honduras. The aircraft was operating flight OMT 3029 from MHRO to MHLM.
Sequence of Events
The landing phase on runway 22 resulted in the aircraft departing the runway between the interceptions E-D 22. The excursion caused damage to the right main landing gear. No injuries were reported among the 18 persons on board, which included 16 passengers and crew.
Aircraft and Operator Details
The Twin Otter, serial number 112, was manufactured in 1968. It was powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-27 engines and had a maximum takeoff weight of 11,579 lbs. The aircraft held a standard airworthiness certificate and was insured. The operator was CM Airlines/ARM.
Preliminary Investigation Status
The Agencia Hondureña de Aeronáutica Civil (AHAC) and its Comisión de Investigación de Accidentes e Incidentes de Aviación (CIAIA) have initiated an investigation. The preliminary report notes that information and documentation are being collected for analysis. No probable cause has been determined at this stage; the final report will contain the findings.
