What happened
The incident occurred while the crew was conducting a training exercise departing from RAF Calveley. During the flight, the aircraft was operating in poor weather conditions. While cruising, the twin-engine airplane impacted the slope of Mt Moel Sych, which is located southeast of Llandrillo. The wreckage was subsequently discovered just below the summit of the mountain.
The accident resulted in one fatality and two injuries among the personnel on board. The crew consisted of three individuals: a pilot who survived with injuries, a second crew member who was killed, and an aircrewman who sustained injuries.
