What happened

A flight originating from Moscow-Chkalovsky Airport, destined for Torino-Caselle Airport, was en route to deliver Ferrari vehicles to Brunei. The flight included a scheduled refueling stop at Abu Dhabi Airport. During the descent toward Torino, the crew received updated meteorological reports indicating light rain and visibility of 2,000 meters.

While performing the final approach to runway 36, the flight crew could not visually identify the runway. An attempt to execute a go-around was initiated; however, the maneuver was not completed successfully. During the climb phase, the aircraft collided with trees and impacted several structures in the village of San Francesco al Campo, situated approximately one kilometer from the runway threshold. The impact destroyed a house and a barn.

Findings

The accident resulted in four fatalities, including both pilots and two individuals on the ground. The collision with the trees and subsequent impact with buildings occurred because the go-around procedure was initiated too late.

Probable cause

The late execution of a go-around maneuver during a low-visibility approach led to a collision with trees and structures.
