Flight Details
The aircraft, a four-engine cargo plane, was operating a cargo flight from Glasgow-Prestwick, United Kingdom, to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea. The flight plan included intermediate stops at Ghardaïa and Tamanrasset, Algeria. On board were seven crew members—six Ukrainian nationals and one Russian national—and a load consisting of oil equipment.
Accident
Approximately three minutes after departing from Tamanrasset-Aguenar-Hadj Bey Akhamok Airport, the aircraft lost radio contact and crashed in a mountainous area located about 15 kilometers south of the airport.
Aftermath
Search teams located the wreckage a few hours after the accident. The aircraft was destroyed by impact forces and a post-crash fire. All seven crew members were killed.
