A four-engine aircraft operating for the Sudanese National Army crashed in a desert area following multiple engine failures shortly after takeoff.

What happened

Shortly after departing from Khartoum-Haj Yusuf Airport, a four-engine aircraft flying from Khartoum to Al Fashir experienced a critical mechanical failure. While operating a flight on behalf of the Sudanese National Army, the crew notified Air Traffic Control of an engine malfunction. Following this initial failure, a second engine on the same side of the aircraft also ceased functioning within seconds.

In an attempt to perform an emergency landing, the crew maneuvered the aircraft, but it ultimately crashed in a desert region situated approximately 22 km from Khartoum Airport. The impact was severe enough to cause the aircraft to disintegrately. The incident resulted in 13 fatalities among the initial occupants, with nine others sustaining serious injuries. Following the accident, two passengers subsequently succumbed to their wounds.
