What happened
A cargo flight operating from Brazzaville to Pointe-Noire ended in a ground collision involving two aircraft. The aircraft involved, an An-12, was transporting various goods and carrying a crew of six. After completing a standard landing procedure, the crew began taxiing away from the runway toward the apron.
During this taxi phase, the crew lost control of the aircraft. This resulted in a collision with a stationary Boeign 727-246, registered 9L-LEF, which was being operated by Canadian Airways Congo. At the time of the impact, the Boeing 727 was unoccupied. The collision caused extensive damage to both airframes, rendering both the An-12 and the 9L-LEF a total loss.
Findings
All six crew members on the An-12 sustained injuries during the incident, with both the pilots suffering serious wounds. The primary factor in the accident was the loss of control during taxiing.
